Key points on how to write a dissertation / research report
The key to a successful dissertation is to work regularly on it. Yes, you might scrape through by leaving things fairly last minute but in contrast to other assignments, dissertations (or research reports) require a number of steps so it is not something you can tackle the day before the submission deadline. Many dissertation modules (courses) comprise two parts: the final dissertation and an interim presentation or report. The reason for the interim assignment is to make sure all students are making some progress, and to catch those who aren’t before it is too late. Crucially, what may seem an insurmountable task initially, if tackled regularly in small steps can easily be overcome – indeed, you might even get some pleasure out of it!
